I n addition to the chapters descriptive of mammalian systems and organs, this
textbook supplies a n introduction of particular interest to the beginning student.
After a few definitions of anatomical terms and a brief classification of vertebrates
and their phylogeny it takes up the principles of laboratory procedures. It gives
simple slid definite iiistructioiis on how t o preserve material and to prepare
specimens f o r dissection of the vascular system, muscles, peripheral nerves, viscera,
central nervous system and osseous system. It also describes methods f o r making
dried preparations, corrosion specimens aiid demonstrating the skeleton in
embryos. Each chapter of the text is followed by a list of questions and suggestions f o r laboratory study. A glossary of terms and their derivations is
convenient f o r reference.

This thesis will be of interest not only to the elinician engaged in diagnosis
and treatment of diseases of the dog but also to the comparative worker utilizing
observations on the lower animals i n the study and elucidation of disease processes
in man. The first p a r t of the work describes the technique used by the author
f o r cisternal puncture, its effects on the subject, the characters of normal cerebrospinal fluid and the clinical applications of the method. The secoiid p a r t
discusses the characteristics of radiopaque oils, particularly lipiodol desceudant,
and their use for injection into the cisterua magna, in order t o determine time of
descent into the subarachnoid cul-de-sac, the conformation of the cul-de-sac,
adhesions occurring i n the course of a descent, movemeiits of the oil after injection,
and the effects of injection. It has definite clinical applications in the demonstration of certain spinal affections. A n appendix calls attention to features of the
spine of the dog which are important i n interpreting photographs of a lipiodol
injections.

This new publication, the first issue of which appeared in January, 1937, is
the only periodical in I t a l y dealing exclusively with parasitology and it expects
to publish the best of Italian research in the field. The first issue contains six
original articles. Each article is supplied with a brief summary in Italian,
English and German, and is followed by a list of references cited. A supplement
to volume I gives a list and a description of all species of anopheline niosquitoes
found in the Italian colonies.
