London, the capital of the United Kingdom, is built on the
river Thames. It is a world centre for business and money
trading. It is also the country’s largest port and a cultural
centre with numerous museums and theatres. Plays,
musical shows, operas and concerts attract large audiences,
including many tourists.


Birmingham is the biggest town in the centre of England. Its
engineering centre. It produces iron and steel for making
cars , ships, aeroplanes and machinery.
There are departments of science, arts, medicine, commerce
and law at the University of Birmingham. And of course it is
an important research centre. Birmingham is often called
the "City of 1,500 trades" because of the great variety of its
industries.

Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
It is associated with science, beautiful historic buildings
and the annual festival of arts. Edinburgh is called
«The Athens of the North». Its main attractions are the
Floral clock made of growing flowers.

Manchester is an industrial capital of the North of England.
It is a very old city. It is the centre of cotton industry.
Manchester was the first city in Great Britain to build an
airport in 1929. Manchester has many libraries, museums,
art galleries and theatres

Leeds is the third largest city in the United Kingdom
produces woolen goods. Leeds is a prosperous, commercial,
industrial and manufacturing city , and is also the cultural
and sporting centre for much of the region.. Leeds is a 'green'
city , proud of its parks and open spaces, including
Woodhouse Moor, close to the University and Roundhay Park
and the Temple Newsam estate near the City Centre.

Glasgow is the largest city of Scotland, almost 1 million of
people live there.
The city was founded in the 6th century, for a long time it
was not more than a cluster of cottages built on the river
Clyde. Then the city began to develop, there was built the
second university in Scotland, and it made Glasgow an
important educational centre.

Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland, it is situated at the head of
the wide Belfast Lough, the inlet of the North Channel on the
eastern coast of the island, where the river Lagan reaches the shore.
The favourable geographical location of the city helped the city to
develop.



Cork is a city in Ireland, located in the South-West Region, in
the province of Munster. It has a population of 119,230, and is
the second largest city in the state and the third most
populous on the island of Ireland.. In 2005, the city was
selected as the European Capital of Culture.
The city is built on the River Lee which splits into two
channels at the western end of the city; the city centre is
divided by these channels.

Dundee is Scotland's fourth largest city and the 51st most
populous built-up area in the United Kingdom. At the
2011 census, Dundee had a population density of 8,541.8/sq
mi, the second highest of any Scottish city. It lies within the
eastern central Lowlands on the north bank of the Firth of
Tay, which feeds into the North Sea. Under the name
of Dundee City, it forms one of the 32 council areas used
for local government in Scotland.

Aberdeen is Scotland's third most populous city, one of
Scotland's 32 local government council areas and the United
Kingdom's 37th most populous built-up area, with an official
population estimate of 196,670 for the city of Aberdeen
itself and 228,990 for the local authority area.


The capital of Australia, Canberra, is a young and
comparatively small city. It was founded in the 20th century
and now has a population of about 260 000 people.
The centre of Canberra is a small hill. Several streets run from
that hill.

Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia. It was the
capital of the country till 1927 and now is the centre of
Australian business world. It is also one of the largest ports in
the country. Melbourne is a beautiful city with numerous
skyscrapers, straight boulevards and large parks and gardens.
One of Melbourne’s places of interest is the house of Captain
Cook, the famous British navigator.

Sydney is Australia’s largest and oldest city. It was the first
British settlement. Sydney has the oldest in the country
botanical gardens and the Zoo. One of the main places of
interest of the city is the famous bridge over the Bay of Port
Jackson. Another one is the Opera House, which resembles
large white shells in form. It is surrounded by the sea on three
sides. Sydney is the city of three universities.
