Some interesting facts about Dublin. Forget about climbing to the Eiffel Tower or swimming by gondola in Venice. If you want a real romantic, pack your bags and go to Dublin! Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic. The name of Dublin is corrupted from Dubh Linn and signifies «Black Pool» after a dark pool in the River Liffey. But many people call Dublin as Baile Átha Cliath («settlement at the ford »). We often see the abbreviation BÁC. Dublin is an old city, known from the 5th century, when St.Patrick used the waters of the pool to baptize the Dubliners. A lot of Dublin’s attractions date back to the 12 and 13th century as Christ Church Cathedral, a famous cathedral of Dublin, Dublin Castle and others. It’s impossible to escape from the 18th century in Dublin. Architecturally it was the age of city’s greatest glory. It left Dublin noble public buildings, wide thoroughfares and fine squares, for example The Bank of Ireland, Marsh’s Library, the Mansion House. Dublin is rich in gardens and public parks, the largest of which is Phoenix Park. It’s Dubliners’ favourite recreation spot. It also contains the residence of the President of the Irish Republic. There are many double-decker buses in Dublin’s streets, just the same as in England, but they are yellow and modern. It includes 65 passenger seats. National brewery plant is one of the oldest Dublin’s enterprises. Guinness has got it’s historic headquarters. Storehouse of Guinness in Dublin is the real tourists’ attraction and maybe it will be here forever. Dublin is famous for it’s vibrant night life and traditional pubs. There are more than thousand pubs in the city. Dublin’s oldest pub is known as the Brazen Head, founded in 1198 AD as a coach house. Dublin is one of the literature towns of UNESCO. Oscar Wilde , Bram Stoker , James Joyce, Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett and others lived there. There are many libraries, literary institutions and publishing companies in Dublin. Dublin has got some double cities in other countries. The city supports relations with Barcelona, Liverpool and San – Jose. If you need only one of arguments, that Dublin is a romantic city you have to know, that St. Valentine’s relics, who the protector of lovers are kept in local cathedral. The National Leprechaun Museum is dedicated to small fairytale persons, who’re the symbols of Ireland. The museum was opened in order to keep the culture of the country. Leprechauns are are the part of ancient Irish legends. According to the legend leprechaun is a peaceful creature in green clothes,who never refuse to drink and hide the pot with gold in grass.
