Galway is situated in the West of Ireland in the province of
Connacht.
Galway lies on the River Corrib.
Dún Bhun na Gaillimhe was built in 1124, by the King of
Connacht, Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair (1088–1156). Around
this fort grew up a small settlement, the future city.
Nowadays Galway is a the sixth most popular city in the
island of Ireland. Galway has a population 79,504 people.
Galway is a real paradise for tourists. There are
many natural beauties, attractions and interesting
traditions. Let’s talk about some of them.
Located right next to the sea,
Galway city has many natural
attractions, from beautiful views
of the ocean to attractions on
dry land.
Galway Bay is a large bay
on the west coast of Ireland.
It is famous for its unique
traditional sailing craft, the
Galway Hooker.
Connemara National Park is
situated in the West of
Ireland in County Galway. It
was established and opened
in 1980. This park covers
2, 957 hectares. There are
mountains, grasslands and
woodlands in it.
The Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
Mary is the cathedral for the Roman Catholic in Ireland.
The Spanish Arch was built in 1584. It stands on the left bank
of the River Corrib, where Galway's river meets the sea.
In 16th century the Arch was a bastion, added to the town’s
walls to protect ships.
Galway City Museum has exhibits on the city's history from
1800 to 1950.
Lynch's Castle is the finest town castle in Ireland. This old
stone town house – now part of AIB Bank – was built in the
14th century.
Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery. It was founded in
1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara,
County Galway, Ireland.
Various pubs are very popular in Galway. Visitors can enjoy
here lively traditional Irish Music, Jazz, and Rock. Many of the
pubs serve delicious food all day.
The Galway International Arts
Festival is Ireland's largest
annual arts festival. Many artists
and companies take part it the
Festival to present their talents
in theatre, dance, visual arts,
music and literature.
Welcome to Galway!
I think, it is very interesting place to visit.
