The Galway International Arts Festival Galway is situated in the West of Ireland in the province of Connacht. Galway lies on the River Corrib. Dún Bhun na Gaillimhe was built in 1124, by the King of Connacht, Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair (1088–1156). Around this fort grew up a small settlement, the future city. Nowadays Galway is a the sixth most popular city in the island of Ireland. Galway has a population 79,504 people. Galway is a real paradise for tourists. There are many natural beauties, attractions and interesting traditions. Let’s talk about some of them. Located right next to the sea, Galway city has many natural attractions, from beautiful views of the ocean to attractions on dry land. Galway Bay is a large bay on the west coast of Ireland. It is famous for its unique traditional sailing craft, the Galway Hooker. Connemara National Park is situated in the West of Ireland in County Galway. It was established and opened in 1980. This park covers 2, 957 hectares. There are mountains, grasslands and woodlands in it. The Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the cathedral for the Roman Catholic in Ireland. The Spanish Arch was built in 1584. It stands on the left bank of the River Corrib, where Galway's river meets the sea. In 16th century the Arch was a bastion, added to the town’s walls to protect ships. Galway City Museum has exhibits on the city's history from 1800 to 1950. Lynch's Castle is the finest town castle in Ireland. This old stone town house – now part of AIB Bank – was built in the 14th century. Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery. It was founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. Various pubs are very popular in Galway. Visitors can enjoy here lively traditional Irish Music, Jazz, and Rock. Many of the pubs serve delicious food all day. The Galway International Arts Festival is Ireland's largest annual arts festival. Many artists and companies take part it the Festival to present their talents in theatre, dance, visual arts, music and literature. Welcome to Galway! I think, it is very interesting place to visit.
