SYSTEM OF CONTINUOUS CONDITION MONITORING AND RAPID DIAGNOSTICS
FOR MARINE ROTARY EQUIPMENT
Abstract. The paper considers the results of the development of stationary system of continuous condition monitoring and rapid diagnostics of marine equipment with rotating elements, its
functions, structure and new technical solutions ensuring its effectiveness. While developing the
system three main issues were resolved: the first is an extraction of a wide range of diagnostic significant components of different physical nature from the vibration signal; the second is a condition
monitoring based on the assessment of the significance of changes in these components on the
background of common transients; the third is the diagnostics based on the data from diagnostically
significant changes in the monitored parameters. To solve the first issue, a signal analyzer, which
allows to calculate many informative parameters by a large number of parallel channels and high
periodicity at the same time, was developed. These parameters characterize the properties of different physical natural processes. To assess the technical condition of the equipment using the measured parameters, a new method of automatic adjustment of thresholds, which allows taking into account the natural fluctuations of parameters at intervals of varying duration and identifying on their
background the trends, characterizing the condition changes, is developed. For rapid identification
of severe defects a method of diagnosing the machine as a whole, based on the detection of significant changes in the monitored parameters, is provided. This method of machine condition monitoring is proven to be more efficient than the diagnostics of various parts of the machine separately.
Application of the presented methods together provides high reliability and rapidity of the decisionmaking about the changes in the machine condition and identification of the reasons of such
change. The implementation of the considered system allows to protect the equipment from nondesirable modes and sudden failures and as a result to use condition-based maintenance.
