2005 Optical properties C 2000 Charge-Transfer Induced Large Nonlinear Optical Properties of Small Al Clusters: Al4M4 (M: Li, Na, and K). — As revealed by quantum chemical DFT calcula02- 003 tions at the B3LYP and MRDCI levels of theory small Al4M4 (M: Li, Na, K) clusters exhibit an exceptionally high magnitude of linear and nonlinear optical coefficients which are orders of magnitude higher than the conventional π-conjugated systems of similar sizes. It is suggested that these clusters are aromatic in character, and along with the large nonlinear optical coefficients, they appear to be better candidates for next generation nonlinear optical fabrication devices. — (DATTA, A.; PATI*, S.
