2005 Structure D 2000 02- 008 Mg2+xIr3-x (x = 0.30) — A Binary Variant of the Monoclinic V2(Co0.57Si0.43)3 Type. — The title compound is synthesized by reacting the elements under reduced Ar pressure in a Ta crucible at 1500 K followed by slow cooling. As revealed by powder and single crystal XRD, Mg2.3Ir2.7 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m with Z = 10 (V2(Co0.57Si0.43)3-type structure). Similar to the silicide structure, Mg2.3Ir2.7 also contains mixed occupied (Mg/Ir) sites. The Mg/Ir and Mg atoms form a three-dimensional network of empty condensed tetrahedra in which the Ir atoms fill distorted pentagonal channels. Both fully occupied Ir sites have a distorted icosahedral coordination by Mg/Ir and Mg. — (HLUKHYY, V.; POETTGEN*, R.; Solid State Sci. 6 (2004) 10, 1175-1180; Inst. Anorg. Anal. Chem., Westfael.
