2005 Tantalum I 5200 20- 024 New Layered Quaternary Tantalum Thiophosphates Containing Binuclear [Ta2S10] Units: Synthesis and Crystal Structures of the New Compounds K0.42TaPS 5 and Rb0.42TaPS5. — The two new quaternary tantalum thiophosphates of title are prepared by reactions of Ta with an in situ formed polythiophosphate melt of M2S3 (M: K, Rb), P2S5, and sulfur (500 °C, 4 d; 85% yield for M: K and 70% for M: Rb). The isostructural compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Fddd with Z = 16 (single crystal XRD). The structure contains TaS6 octahedra sharing one edge to form dimeric Ta2S10 units, which are linked by sharing common edges with four tetradentate PS4 groups yielding a two-dimensional layered structure. The connection scheme leads to the formation of one type of cavities within the layers which are occupied by the alkali metal cations. — (GUTZMANN, A.; NAETHER, C.; BENSCH*, W.; Z. Anorg. Allg.
