At the late end of 1670s. parliamentary opposition in England devided into the Whig Party relied on the nobility and the bourgeoisie the Tory Party (supporters of the king) relied on the old feudal nobility, royal court and officials. The main reason of the Glorious Revolution The bourgeoisie, the nobility and the new parliament were dissatisfied with the policy of the king. On November 5 in 1605 the famous Gunpowder Plot was perpetrated as a protest against the sharp enforcement of anti-Catholic laws of King James I. So, now the anniversary of this cabal is celebrated each year in England and is called Guy Fawkes Day in memory of the chief character in the drama. In the autumn of 1689 the Bill of Rights was adopted. It deprived the King of the rights to cancel or suspend laws issued by the Parliament. This document legalized the accomplished coup and laid the legal foundations of the constitutional monarchy. The Coup in 1688 and the Bill of Rights expressed a compromise between the nobility and the bourgeoisie and facilitated further development of the capitalist country. The coup d'etat changed the following… James II Stuart was dethroned and William III of Orange was proclaimed King. James II Stuart King William III of Orange The consequences of the English Revolution were important The new nobility and the bourgeoisie were able to use state power to accelerate the country's capitalist development by means of: favorable government loans; taxation; colonial conquest; the promotion of trade and industry. Also… England survived the first industrial revolution. This country turned into the first great industrial capitalist power, which went far ahead in its development than other European countries. The main result of the coup was the consolidation of the constitutional monarchy. This palace revolution marked the end of an old struggle between the King and the Parliament. My point of view In my opinion, the Glorious Revolution was the important event in British history. Deep reforms were conducted which laid the basis for the political and economic system of the country. During these years, meteoric rise of England began as well as its transformation into a great world power. Источники информации 1. 2. 3. Всемирная история в 24 томах. Том 13. Минск: Литература, 1996.
