A laser type light or beacon for aircraft or maritime navigation
provides a directional transmission of a selected frequency of
monochromatic light. Such an installation may be ground based or
mounted on a geostationary satellite and is of reduced size since
reflectors and lenses are not required. The laser provides a luminous
cylinder of light of any chosen colour which is visible in daylight. A
single emitting source permits a horizontal sweep of several
kilometers to be made. A high power installation for a lighthouse or
beacon is made by switching the illumination on and off in millisecond
periods. Identification of an installation may be made from the colour
of the emitted light.

La presente invention concerne l'utilisation de la lumiere ordonnee
"Type Laser" comme systeme de balise ou phare dans la navigation
aerienne et maritime, au sol ou a partir d'un satellite

Le seul dispositif optique utilise a ce jour pour le guidage jusqu'a
un point donne ou pour eviter un obstacle sur la route a suivre est le
phare en mar ou la balise en navigation @erienne utilisant une lampe a
incandescence.
Les defauts d'un tel dispositif sont multiples - diffusion de la
lumiere tout [email protected], d'ou munir d'un reflecteur diminuant son
rendement; - spectre allant de l'ultre-viclet a l'infrarouge, alors
que seule la partie vi sible de ce spectre est utile, d'ou perte
egalement de [email protected]; - perte d'efficacite tres importante par tempe
humide et voisine de zero avec la pluie ou le brouillard t -
multiplicite des sources lumineuses dans le cas des aeroports sur les
pistes;; - duree de vie limitee des sources [email protected]@uses s'accompagnant
d'une baisse de puissance, impossibilite d'@xtinction et d'[email protected]
successifs dans le cas des [email protected] puissances a cause des temperatures
engendrees sur les enveloppes, d'ou un [email protected] [email protected] et [email protected]
dans le cas des phares notamment @a eclats" en marine; - utilisation
de lentilles pour l'obtention d'un fiasceau cylindrique toujours
imparfait, ce qui nuit a la portee.
Le phare ou la balise, selon l'invention, permet d'eviter ces
inconvenients.
L'emission de la lumiere ordonnee "type laser" est directionnelle.
Elle est selon la frequence selectionnee monochromique avec
possibilite d'utilisation de toutes les couleurs visibles connues sur
l'[email protected] Elle est du fait de son [email protected]@e et de son
emission unidirectionnelle a consommation de puissance egale, au
minimum dix fois plus penetrante et visible par temps de [email protected] ou de
brcuillard. Elle se materialise dans l'expace des que la lumiere du
jour est faible sous forme d'un cylindre lumineux parfaitement vi
sible quel que soit l'angle considere. Elle peut permettre un baUnage
horizon tal sur plusieurs [email protected] avec une seule source d'emission.
Ello peut remplacer un phare k eclat simplement par extinction et
allu- mage, l'action etant de quelques milliemes de secondes.
Elle permet egalement la suppression de tout systeme optique tels que
lentilles ou reflecteurs. Elle possede un rendement constant dans le
temps.
Elle permettrait dans des condition de visibilite difficile une
approche des aeroports par les avions plus facile, d'ou une securite
accrue et de reculer les limites d'arret d'atterrissage et de
detournement sur d'autres aeroports par manque de visibilite.
Elle permettrait pour les phares cotiers, du fait de sa possibilitd
d'extinc- tion, de ne pas "balayer la terre" avec un meilleur reperage
par couleur.
Elle permet une puissance en lumiere visible comparable a celle
utilisee en [email protected] pour l'armement.

using the pull down menu here.
You can select "Full Text" to view the entire document.
5. For non-latin languages, (in most cases) full text translations
are available, you can toggle them on and off here.
You can also toggle the inline discovery translations between
English and their original language.
6. The pie chart icon will open a basic statistical breakdown of the
publication.
7. The sort icon allows you to sort the listed categories based on
the number of instances found.
Click to toggle between ascending and descending.
8. You can use the refine box to refine the discovered items in the
sections below.
Simply type what you are looking for, any items that do not match
will be temporarily hidden.
9. The publication has been analysed and we have identified items
within it that fit into these categories.
The specific items found are listed within the category headings.
Click the section header to open that section and view all the
identitfied items in that section.
If you click the checkbox all items in that section will be
highlighted in the publication (to the right).
The best thing to do is to experiment by opening the sections and
selecting and unselecting checkboxes.
10. The main output window contains the publication full text (or part
thereof if selected).
11. The Tools section contains tools to help you navigate the
"discovered" (highlighted) items of interest.
The arrows and counter let you move through the highlighted items
in order.
12. Other tools include a "Preview" option [ [preview.png] ] and the
ability to mark the relative locations of highlighted items by
using the "Marker" option [ [marker.png] ].
Try these out to best understand how they work, and to discover if
they are of use to you.
13. Items selected from the menu on the left will be highlighted in
the main publication section (here in the middle of the screen).
Click them for further information and insights (including
chemical structure diagrams where available).
14. Please experiment with TextMine - you cannot make any permanent
changes or break anything and once your session is closed (you've
log out) all your activity is destroyed.
